The Gospel of Mark: The King and His Cross

There Should Be No Poor Among You

This sermon series naturally follows our study of Exodus - Out of Bondage. After 40 years in the desert, as the people of Israel stood on the edge of the Promised Land, God spoke through Moses saying,

"There need be, there must be, there shall be…no poor people among you
because God is going to bless you lavishly in this land…
But only if you listen obediently to the Voice of God, your God,
diligently observing every commandment that I command you today."

Deuteronomy 15:4-6

God gave instructions to the people to care for the land that would become theirs and how to live in a different way from the cultures around them - to live in community, loving God and loving each other.

In this sermon series we begin by exploring the instructions God gave His people and continue to examine his instructions through the Old and New Testaments...we examine that against the backdrop of today's economic and political climate and learn what it means to be poor in America and in our community.
